PROPOSED UNIVERSITY AT HANKOW.
We are instructed by the Directors of the Leith Chamber of Commerce to respectfully represent to you, their lively interest in the proposal to establish a British University at Hankoy, China, in the mutual interests of Great Britain and China, and to express their concurrence in and adhesion to the Memorials which they understand have been addressed to you on this subiect by Chambers of
Commerce of leading commercial cities in the United Kingdom.
Our Directors have learned with great appreciation
of the favourable consideration which this matter has
already received from His Majesty's Government, and of the
expression of their willingness to appropriate a Grant of
£150,000, on conditions, out of the "Boxer Indemnity", in
furtherance of the proposal; but they could most respect- fully take the liberty of urging that in view of the
